The Bucks County Chapter of Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Board of Associates—a group of volunteers who support cancer research at Fox Chase—hosted an elegant gala called “April in Vienna” on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Spring Mill Manor (171 Jacksonville Road, Ivyland, PA).
The event was reminiscent of a night at the Vienna Opera House and included cocktails, dinner, entertainment and wonderful live and silent auction items. The live auction featured exciting items such as an African Game Preserve Vacation for four people in the exclusive Ongava game reserve in Namibia, one week at a historic villa in Tuscany, and a Maui getaway at the ocean-front resort at Papake Haven, to name a few. Violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv, a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and principal violinist of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, performed in a string quartet to entertain guests.
“Everyone had a terrifically entertaining evening at last year’s ‘April in Florence,’ and thanks to their generosity, we raised $200,000 for Fox Chase Cancer Center,” said Dan Levin, president of the Bucks County Chapter, Board of Associates. “We raised the bar in 2013 with April in Vienna, which was an exhilarating event for our participants and with a higher goal of funds that we can present to the premier cancer center in our region.”
This year’s Special Pledge will raise funds to fight pancreatic cancer, one of the most deadly forms of the disease. Funds from the pledge will assist Fox Chase researchers as they work towards eradicating this fatal disease. The rest of the funds from the event will be designated to other specific cancer research projects at Fox Chase.
